A quite authentic ramen joint in downtown Oakland. It comes really close to being fabulous but over time has catered to more Americanization of Japanese ramen.
Everything feels authentic to the 85% mark but then something gives away the compromise.
The gyoza was great until they sprinkled ginger and mayo on top. The ox tail ramen lacked a bit of depth. And not sure where they got their kimchi from but certainly unpassable by Korean standards.
However, it does hold together for a decent meal in a space with modern, industrial vibe.
The concept of Itanis is great. I just wouldn't return as a seeker of pure-bred ramen.
It was pretty yummy! Stopped here before going to a show nearby. We had enough leftovers for the next day!
I ordered through door dash. I did not receive what I ordered. Additionally the โramenโ noodles I received were more like severely overcooked pasta noodles with the consistency of undercooked shredded hash browns. So disgusting. The broth was supposed to be vegetable but was not. It smelled like beef. The smell was so disgusting I nearly vomited. To top this all off door dash refused to refund my money though I 100% did not receive what I ordered. I would not go into this place and I sure as heck would never order again through delivery.
The food was amazing! Oxtail ramen ๐ with yuzu lemonade ๐. My first waiter was really sweet and was really patient with me, but once she left for the day. A new waiter came and was rushing me out the door. Wish I could've given my first waiter a tip.
It's my first time here at Itani Ramen, and one of the first things that I notice is the nice atmosphere they've set up for decorations. It reminds me so much of the ramen shops I've visited during the Ramen Festival in Japan. The unique option of oxtail ramen piqued my appetite, and I must say that the meal did not disappoint. The broth is clean and clear with a subtle robustness that gently caresses the perfectly cooked noodles accompanied by the melt-in-your-mouth umami of the slow-braised oxtail. Another unique topping is the addition of cubed sweet potatoes that I enjoyed as well. Of course, I would be remiss if I didn't add an extra topping of chashu to my bowl, as well as an extra order of noodles to go with it. It all balances the perfect amount of protein to noodles ratio in my generous serving. As a side dish, I ordered a 5pc gyoza, which you can either have as "sloppy" (deep fried with extra green onions) or "yaku" (traditional griddled and steamed), a perfect accompaniment to my ramen bowl. I highly recommend this place for all ramen lovers alike. Would definitely go back to try out their donburi (rice bowls) options next.
Stopped in before the show at the Fox. Had really good ramen and the yuzu lemonade rocked! My friend had a roll your own sushi roll she really lived as well. Decent prices too!
Nice ramen restaurant with veg options. Good atmosphere, tasty food, and great service.
Has a nice private room in the back that you can book for small functions. I've attended a few professional dinners there for 12-20 people and it was a nice atmosphere.
BEST...RAMEN...EVER!!!
The oxtail ramen is a must! Hands down the best roman I've ever had. Good size portion too. I added pork belly which was also delicious. The egg has a sweetness to it that I've never tasted before.
SIMPLY DELECTABLE!
